I first came across one of these many years ago at the reapir shop I go when I need adjustments and even a guitar made. They work well and certainly better than the really cheap ones you can get for $14 or less. It responds to how you play a note - so make sure you pluck a nice clean note from near the middle of the string - not one rich in harmonies near the bridge. You'll know when the battey starts to fail as it gets harder to find the notes and then it won't light up - still gives you a reading but no green light.
